The Betrayers has it all; exotic location, beautiful woman, competent villain and plenty of twists and double crosses to keep you guessing. As always there's Helm; middle-aged, disdainful of amateurs and bleeding hearts...ruthless. He may be on a mission but he's certainly not a man on a mission. It's just a job.

This is the 10th novel in the series and it's only six years after it began. Hamilton really found his stride in this one. But that's the fun of these. Other series get passed onto 'house writers,' once the series becomes successful or the author runs out of ideas. Not here. All twenty-seven Helm novels were written by Donald Hamilton. Twenty-seven novels over thirty-three years. I am reading the series in order and look forward to seeing how Hamilton and Helm handle the seventies, eighties and nineties.
There is treachery afoot as Matt must battle his own agents to find the traitor. A must have in the Matt Helm series.

Suddenly, Helm's therapeutic vacation has turned into a cat and mouse game of ferreting out a traitor who may be aided by two suspicious ladies.
Love Matt Helm mysteries. I'm working again through the whole series as I read so many as a kid. Engaging and well thought out. Better than the Ian Fleming spy books.
