I wanted so badly to like this book. I was so excited to read it. I LOVED the Jessica Darling books growing up (we are the same age, after all) and I couldn't wait to see what she'd been up to for the past few years. But while I was reading this book, all I kept thinking was, "...Were the others like this, too, and I just grew up?" I haven't had a chance to go back and re-read books 1-3, but I hope that's not true. I hope they hold up. As for this installment, I just... hated it. Ms. McCafferty mentions Before Sunrise at some point early in the book and then models the rest of the novel on that movie. It just felt forced and gimmicky and lazy. Marcus is just a completely neutered version of his former self. Jessica is a bad friend. I completely agree with a previous reviewer that the two biggest flaws were the entire chapters of poems or haiku, and the giant block of dialogue with no description or action whatsoever. Very disappointing.

...especially because it was released recently enough that I had to spend the extra $$ to buy it in hardback. I pretty much agree with those who were disappointed with #5 in this series. While I'm glad Jessica and Marcus found their way back to one another (was there any doubt?), this entire story could have been added as an epilogue to "Fourth Comings." Quite honestly, I skipped over dozens of the far-too-many pages of dialogue, and don't really think I missed that much. I spent about an hour total on the book, and find myself wishing I had spent even less time. Note to author / publisher just because you've got a "hit" series on your hands, don't needlessly stretch it out. If you choose the other route, prioritizing quality over quantity for the readers, you have a far better chance of having us come back for the next series.
A lot of fans of this series don't care for this installment, but it's my favorite. The four books that precede this one are all about the back-and-forth, but you don't get really anything from Marcus Flutie's POV. Really, you don't get much from him at all. He's mysterious and withholds a lot, or in some instances disappears entirely. Perfect Fifths is MM's apology for not giving us enough Flutie. You get inside his head, and the entire book takes place over the course of a day, and it's incredibly dialogue heavy. But that's what I love about it! The back-and-forth this time is actually verbal, in person and not in letters, and you get all the Marcus Flutie you can handle (jk, too much is never enough). Perfect ending to an amazing series.
I was excited to read the last book so I was kind of disappointed that this one fell flat for me. It took me getting into the second book before I really connected to Jessica Darling. But, after that I began to understand her and I was hooked. I felt like all Jessica and Marcus did for 3/4 of the book is talk around things that have already happened but without actually mentioning them at all. But, I really do like this author. It was my first time reading her work and I'll read her work again.
3.5 Stars - It's hard for me to write this review. The fourth book and now this book just fell a little flat to me. I understand that characters need to grow and with that growth comes change in who they are and how they act and react to the people around them. It's just that these characters - Jessica and Marcus felt like such different people that I didn't even feel like I was reading the same series.

I loved the first three books. Loved them with a capital "L" even, and then with book four I felt let down and even a bit confused. Knowing that this would be the last in the series I knew I'd read it no matter what to see where our two main characters would end up.

Jessica and Marcus have had a crazy relationship to say the very least. The up's the down's and all the crazy parts inbetween. I was in many ways happy with the outcome and where the end of this series took us. I felt closure with things. I just think that it was a bit short or rushed even. I loved all the dialogue between Jessica and Marcus, their happy crazy banter was always a huge sell for me and their story. It was nice to have such a large part of this book be devoted to just that. It was for this reason alone that I gave this the rating that I did. Plus, they felt more like the Jessica and Marcus I knew and loved in the first three books.

It's always sad when a series of books come to an end and with this it all felt right. Felt like a great place to leave these two and without giving anything away to anyone, I'll just leave it at that.

If you've read any of the other books in this series, it's well worth the reading the final book. I think everyone will be happy to see what unfolds throughout for Jessica and Marcus. Enjoy!
The fifth and final installment often beloved Jessica Darling series lives up to its name, Perfect.

I have officially decided that I love airport romances. From here on out, if I pick up a contemporary romance? I want it to be set in an airport and take place over a 24 hour time period! Between Perfect Fifths and Statistical Probability ofLove T First Sitght ((LINK)) I definitely think that format/locale is the way to go.

In this final book, we get nearly perfect farewells to all of the characters who have filled our hearts the past few books. Bethany and Marin, Hope, Bridgette and Percy (who Jessica's missed flight has made her miss their tropical wedding) even Len and Manda get a special ending.

Perfect Fifths has cemented Marcus Flutie into a very special place in my heart - a place where all future book boyfriends must strive to reach the incredibly high bar which he has set! And now, ten years after it began! We finally have an ending to Marcus and Jessica's love story. One so wonderful that I had to put the book down for three whole days (with only 5% left to read) because I couldn't bare to say goodbye to these characters!

I highly recommend the Jessica Darling series to fans of contemporary reads, and I think this final book is the perfect ending for Megan McCafferty fan-girls.
